PA LAB [web] — The idea of the Performing Arts Laboratory involves experimental research and development of theatrical art, performance and other related performing practices

The PA LAB website was designed as a digital extension of the Performance Art Laboratory’s identity—rooted in experimental theater and site-specific performance. The design pays homage to the aesthetics of old theatrical posters while introducing a contemporary interaction language that speaks in gestures, glances, and subtle provocations.

Just like performance art often communicates through implication and layered symbolism, the website’s interactive behavior follows the same logic. Many interface elements are non-literal: hovering over them sometimes obscures content instead of revealing it. This reverse logic, borrowed from performance conventions, invites users to "read between the lines"—to interact not just with the content, but with its absence.

Cursor changes are not arbitrary—they morph into question marks, arrows, or other signs to hint at navigational cues. These micro-interactions play the role of silent narrators, guiding without dictating.

Each individual act opens into its own dedicated frame—a minimal container placed over a full-screen stage photo from the performance. This treatment places the visitor "on stage" with the act, giving each project a spatial signature. The result is intimate and immersive without relying on elaborate transitions.

Throughout the site, the visual design remains stripped down—typographic, grid-based, and color-muted. Every element is purposeful, every absence deliberate. The interface is not just a delivery mechanism, but a collaborator in the performative space of the laboratory.
